Pfaff Motorsports WINS Mobil1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
Mayhem with GTP leaders pilling up in corner 3 with 15 minutes to go
The last hour saw lots of action in the front of the field with GTP cars swapping position and aggressive driving to be expected in the last hour of the race. Catching up to a group of GTD cars fighting for positions, contact was made between the Acura Minolta #10 and the Porsche #7 which sent the Acura GTP onto the grass approaching the braking zone for corner 3. #10 driver Albuquerque did everything to slow his car down but ended crossing the track and hitting the the side of the same Porsche. That produced a chain reaction with the second Porsche GTP involved.
Fortunately, everyone escaped uninjured and the safety crew worked hard and quickly to let the race resume and finish under green.
Just before the incident, Mikaël Grenier had worked is way up from seventh to third place only to be penalized for a drive-thru for making contact with the #44 Aston Martin GTD. And that was it for his race. Unfortunate as the Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 had been running up front all race long. Grenier recorded the fasted time of the GT3 field(GTD PRO and GTD) with a time of 2:01.773.
Heart of Racing and Roman De Angelis were looking good for a possible victory until the car went off and ended their race.
Zach Robichon with Wright Motorsports and its Porsche 911 GT3 R finished in sixth place. Parker Thompson with VasserSullivan in the Lexus RC F GT3 ended the race in fifth place.
It has to be said that Pfaff Motorsports silently made their way back to the top this weekend. Tip of the hat to the entire crew and drivers that worked hard following the setback from qualifying has the car ended up hitting the tire barrier quite hard and damaging the front end of the car.
A special mention Canadian team #13 AWA Racing and to Orey Fidani, Lars Kern and Matt Bell who finished second In LMP2! The second AWA car #17 place fourth.
