Parker Thompson to start third in Race 1 Porsche Carrera Cup North America

MARCO CIRONE WITH MARK MOTORS RACING QUALIFIED FIFTH IN PRO-AM
Parker Thompson had confirmed on Monday his return to the Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by the Cayman Islands with JDX Racing driving the Porsche 992 Cup race cars.
“It’s a new season, and I am as hungry as ever to get back behind the wheel and into a Porsche for another year with Carrera Cup. Last year I joined the series, feeling a bit like an open-wheel racer trying to learn sports cars. With an entire season under my belt now, I feel great about our chances in 2022. The competition in this Porsche series is exceptionally close, and it takes a complete team effort to hang out at the front of the field. With JDX Racing, and an incredible group of partners returning for the campaign, I have full confidence in our abilities! In 2021 we didn’t quite reach our championship aspirations. Everyone in our program, Jeremy Dale at JDX Racing, Michael Wappler at Surgere, and even our transportation crew and marketing team, are as hungry as I am for that top step of the podium. It’s going to be an exciting year!”
A good way to start the new season with a third place in qualifying for Race 1. Kay van Berlo with Kelly-Moss Racing grabbed the pole with a lap of 2:03.330. Second place went to Riley Dickinson also driving with Kelly-Moss Racing (2:03.507) and Thompson in third (2:03.535).

Mark Motors Racing is making a return to the series along with Marco Cirone who qualified fifth in the Pro-Am class for Race 1.
The grid for Race 2 is determined by the second fastest lap of each drivers during the qualifying session. Thompson will again start third as he clocked a time of 2:03.859. That was 0.503s from pole sitter Kay van Berlo (2:03.356). Second place went to Riley Dickinson with a lap time of 2:03.698.
Race 1 takes place Thursday morning at 9:15 while race 2 is scheduled for 1:30pm. You can watch both races on IMSA.tv.
