Second podium for Roman De Angelis and The Heart of Racing at Sebring
THE TEAM HAS HAS SHOWN CONSISTENCY WITH SOLID PERFORMANCES SCORING MANY PODIUMS LATELY
For the second straight year, the Heart of Racing Team has finished on the podium in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring with yesterday’s P3 finish.
After starting from P9, team principal and driver Ian James delivered an aggressive start that allowed them to move into the top half of the class, where they remained for the majority of the race. Drivers Roman De Angelis and Ross Gunn both avoided contact in some very close moments, avoiding other competitors mistakes at several points in the race, ultimately allowing Gunn to challenge for a spot on the podium after a restart with just thirty minutes left in the race.
This most recent result follows a P5 finish in the 2021 season opener at Daytona, placing them solidly in the points chase for the season. They look forward to the season’s next event, the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, and maintaining the momentum they’ve built in the first two races of the 2021 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
Ian James: Wow, what a race. So proud of the team and my co-drivers today. Everybody executed perfectly and to finish on the podium at Sebring is always a massive accomplishment. Looking forward to the next event.
Roman De Angelis: Really happy with the weekend overall. To finish the Twelve Hours of Sebring in the podium after the amount of events that occurred throughout the race is pretty impressive on any mark and shows the hard work, clean stops, and smart driving by the whole team. I can’t thank everyone at the Heart of Racing in Seattle, New Zealand, and the whole team for the support and effort and I’m super pumped to take the good points into the next round.
