Pfaff Motorsports WINS The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring
PODIUM FOR THE HEART OF RACING AND HEARTBREAK FOR SUNENERGY 1 RACING IN THE LAST 30 MINUTES
Laurens Vanthoor survived a late restart as an unfortunate incident involving the #75 SunEnergy 1 Racing driver Maro Engel lost a rear wheel coming out of the fast last corner leading onto the front straight caused the last caution with less than 30 minutes left in the race.
Vanthoor was able to keep Patrick Long at bay on the restart to keep a 3 seconds gap all the way to the checkered flag.
Redemption is probably a word that comes to mind as Pfaff Motorsports overcame a electronic issues in qualifying that left them in the back of the grid for the start. Yes, 12 hours is a long race but still it shows a solid team. They have been competitive all weekend long and have worked their strategy throughout the race. And their pitstops were perfectly executed. A great drive from Zach Robichon and Lars Kern as well.
The Heart of Racing finished on the third step of the podium with another solid performance from this team who has shown consistency since the later part of last season. Another podium for Roman De Angelis.
After a great recovery from ABS and traction control glitches with the car and being 5 laps down at some point during the 12 hours, SunEnergy 1 Racing deserved a better ending. Mikaël Grenier as, once again, shown great pace at the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT3. A great performance from team owner Kenny Abul as well and Maro Engel demonstrating his abilities with the car.
Very unfortunate circumstances for Alegra Motorsports and Daniel Morad who were very confident for the race. Hopefully the damages on their Mercedes AMG GT3 will not be too excessive as the contact with the tire wall looked very hard. Driver Billy Johnson came out with no injuries.
