Acura Team Penske takes DPi Pole for IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar at Road America
1-2-3 FOR CANADIAN BASED TEAM IN GTD AS PORSCHE TAKES POLE IN GTLM AND PR1 MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS PATRICK KELLY TAKES SECOND CONSECUTIVE POLE IN LMP2
Acura Team Penske have been dominating so far this weekend having led both practice sessions and now grabbing pole position for tomorrow’s race. It is Ricky Taylor who was behind the wheel for the #7 Acura DPi and Taylor clocked a 1:49.061 lap that bettered the sister #6 Acura DPi driven by Dane Cameron by 0.318 second. Third on the grid will be the #55 Mazda Motorsports 0.546 second adrift for pole; the car being driven by Harry Tincknell.
With still over three minutes left in the qualifying session, Felipe Nasr went off the track at corner 7 in the #31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi which caused a red flag and brought the session to an end.
The LMP2 class has four cars present at Road America this weekend. #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports(Kelly/Trummer) will start from pole followed by #81 DragonSpeed Usa(Hedman/Hanley) and third the #38 Performance Tech Motorsports(French/Cassels).
Another great battle in GTLM for pole as we had to wait to the last lap to see if Jordan Taylor could better the 2:00.590 time of Laurens Vanthoor in the #912 Porsche RSR . Unfortunately, for the #3 Corvette(Taylor/Garcia) driver, his time of 2:00.854 was 0.264s shy of the pole time. Third place went to the #4 Corvette of Oliver Gavin/Tommy Milner, Gavin crossing the line 0.314s behind the Porsche. Our Canadian representative, Bruno Spengler, qualified the #25 BMW M8 GTE of BMW Team RLL in fourth place.



In the GTD class, it will be an all AIM VASSER SULLIVAN front row with the Lexus RC F GT3 coming out fastest the class. Aaron Telitz, driver of the #14 set a lap of 2:06.251 with was good abnougj for pole. The #12 sister car was 0.787 second behind and third was the #76 Compass Racing McLaren 720S GT3 driven by Corey Fergus with a lap of 2:07.265, 1.014s behind the pole sitter.
Making a return to the class, The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of Roman De Angelis will be starting 11th. Co-driver Ian James was at the wheel for qualifying.
The 2 hours 40 minutes race is scheduled to start Sunday at 11:05am (CDT) or 12:05 Eastern Daytime.
