Mark Wilkins wins the Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR class at Sebring and Kyle Marcelli second in GS
THE 2-HOUR RACE RED FLAGGED FOR 75 MINUTES DUE TO LIGHTNING IN THE AREA OF SEBRING INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
It was a return to action for IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge teams today at Sebring international Speedway. Notably for our Canadians Kyle Marcelli, Scott Maxwell, Mark Wilkins, James Vance.
Kuno Wittmer and Orey Fidani did not make the trip to Sebring as we previously posted AWA Racing opted to compete in the Canadian Touring Car Championship for the time being.
The AdventHealth 120 saw a field of 21 GS cars and 13 TCR cars take the flag that was red flagged for 1 hour and 15 minutes due to severe weather and lightning in the proximity of Sebring. The race then resumed although a full course yellow came out with 15 minutes to go in the race as the pace car brought the field to the end of the race.
In the GS class, CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Audi R8 GT4 of driver Jeff Westphal/Tyler McQuarrie won ahead of KOHR MOTORSPORTS Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Kyle Marcelli/Nate Stacy and Archangel Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport finished third. Scott Maxwell driving the Multimatic Motorsports Inc. Ford Mustang GT4 ended up in 8th place.
Hyundai Veloster N TCR cars swept the podium with Bryan Herta Autposport Hyundai Verloster N TCR finished 1-2 with Canadian Mark Wilkins and teammate Harry Gottsacker taking the win ahead of Michael Lewis and Mason Filippi in the sister car. Third is the Forty7 Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N TCR of Alex Papadopulos and Ben Waddell.
James Vance placed fourth for FASTMD Racing with Speed Syndicate Audi RS3 LMS TCR.
The next race will take place at the beautiful Road America venue JUL 31 – AUG 2.
