It’s race week at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

ZACH ROBICHON LEADS THE IMSA WEATHERTECH SPRINT CUP BY ONE POINT GOING INTO THE LAST ROUND

Pfaff Motorsports have had their bad fortune turn around in the last couple of races winning at Lime Rock Park and Road America and with this is occupying second place in the overall IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar GTD teams’ standings.

Zach Robichon

Zach Robichon heads into the weekend leading the Sprint Cup drivers’ championship one point ahead of the two Meyer Shank Racing teammates Mario Farnbacher and Trent Hindman. No doubt he will look to maximize his result this weekend. It is unfortunate for Scott Hargrove who had to miss a couple of events but will nevertheless push for his teammate to accumulate as many points as possible.

In the teams’ standing for the Sprint Cup #14 AIM Vasser Sullivan is shown in second, #12 AIM Vasser Sullivan in fifth place, Pfaff Motorsports in seventh and Compass Racing in 10th.

Compass Racing will be trying to confirm on their form of late as their McLaren 720S GT3 has been performing stronger race after race since it has entered the series with drivers Matt Plumb and Paul Holton.

Our third GTD team, AIM Vasser Sullivan will also be looking for a good result this weekend as they have struggled somewhat in the last events. New sponsorship came on board for the #12 with MemSQL.

This weekend also sees the Michelin Challenge Series with drivers Kuno Wittmer, Kyle Marcelli, Jesse Lazare, Chris Green, Orey Fidani competing in the GS class and Mark Wilkins, James Vance in the TCR class.

Interesting fact is the three McLaren 570 competing in the GS class are prepared and raced by Canadian teams Compass Racing, Motorsport In Action and AWA.

Let’s hope the #75 Compass Racing McLaren will run out of gremlins and produce a great result for drivers Wittmer/Holton. MIA and Jesse Lazare will be looking for redemption after being taken out by a competitor in the very late stage of the race at VIRginia International Raceway while AWA Racing will keep on pushing to get a great result, keeping in mind it is only their third race with the car.

Kyle Marcelli and the KohR Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 team will look for a second win in a row.

Mark Wilkins and teammate Michael Lewis with Bryan Herta Autosport w/CURB Adjanan are currently leading the TCR class with a five points lead. James Vance, who is currently seventh in the standing, won the VIR race with co-driver Nick Galante in the Fast MD Racing Audi RS3 LMS TCR DSG.

Action starts Friday with practice only for both WeatherTech and Michelin Challenge.
