Frustrating weekend for Latifi at Monza ending Race 2 in 10th place
“WE MISSED A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP.” NICHOLAS LATIFI
In contention for a podium finish in the feature race Saturday, Latifi could not avoid contact and finish 13th having to stop for new front wing. Starting 13th for Race 2 proved to be a difficult task to get a good amount of points especially when championship rival Nyck De Vries was starting ahead.
In the end, De Vries crossed the line in third place from a sixth place start and Latifi was able to get to tenth place.
“We had a great opportunity to narrow the gap in the Drivers’ Championship when Nyck de Vries was ruled out of qualifying. Unfortunately we missed. Saturday I had to change my front wing after contact with another competitor and I found myself 13th on the starting grid of the Sprint Race. Getting a good result would be very complicated. We must learn from Monza and return to the forefront of Sochi. “
In the championship race, Nyck De Vries now has 225 points with Latifi 59 points behind with 166. Following are Luca Ghiotto in third(155 points), Jake Aitken in fourth(153 points) and Sérgio Sette Câmara in fifth(151 points).
Next round is Sochi(Russia) on September 27-29.
