Mikaël Grenier on the podium at Silverstone
A ONE-TWO FINISH FOR EMIL FREY RACING IN RACE 1 WITH ALBERTO COSTA/GIACOMO ALTOÈ TAKING THE WIN; MIKAËL GRENIER/NORERT SIEDLER SECOND
Having started outside the front row, Mikaël Grenier and teammate Norbert Siedler lost a place in the first lap but then a first safety car situation came out because of contact in the midfield that sent out several cars into a spin with one of them not able to restart.
The safety car came in after a lengthy 23 minutes and, six minutes after the race went back to green, the leaders(#63 Emil Frey Racing of Costa/Altloè) started to pit leaving the #14 of Siedler/Grenier in the lead.
With 30 minutes to go, Mikaël Grenier took the wheel of the #14 and rejoined in third immediately behind the sister car #63. Leader at the time was Loris Spinelli/Daniel Zampieri in the Antonelli MotorSport Mercedes AMG GT3.
Once Spinelli stopped for the mandatory driver change, it was the two Emil Frey Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO Costa(leading) with Grenier within a second. Third was the Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren 720 s of Henrique Chaves/Martin Kordic eight seconds behind.
With 25 minutes to go, another safety car situation occurred when a competitor left fluid on the track. The race resumed with 14 minutes to go with Grenier chasing teammate Costa for the win.
At the checkered flag, the win went to #63 Emil Frey Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO of Costa/Altloè with #14 of Grenier/Siedler 1.6s behind. Fabrizio Crestani(SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes AMG GT3) made the pass on Henrique Chaves(Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren 720 s) soon after the restart to take third place at the checkered flag 0.4s behind Grenier.
Qualifying and Race 2 will take place tomorrow.
