Roman DeAngelis wins Race 1 at Road America
INCIDENTS FILLED 45-MINUTES RACE INTERRUPTED SEVERAL TIMES WITH FULL COURSE YELLOW ENDING THE RACE; TOP 3 OVERALL TO CANADIANS DRIVERS
Roman DeAngelis had the chance to practice his restarts from first place on a couple of occasions as the race had little green flag action.
Long safety car periods to clean the incidents made the race a dash to the finish with less than 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately, a third incident brought out the safety car once more and it is how the timed race ended.
The good story of the race was the young Ethan Simioni, who had started in second place, held on to a podium spot as only compatriot Jeff Kingsley was able to successfully pass him.
The overall podium of the race went to three Canadian drivers with DeAngelis, Kingsley and Simioni. Although the series celebrates the USA and Canadian championship separate for podium celebrations.
Of the overall top ten finishers, seven of the drivers are from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada. It speaks a lot about the talents we have north of the border.
Other driver to mention, Marco Cirone finished eight overall, Parker Thompson ninth, Michael Di Meo tenth, Michael Levitas 12th, Michael Fantin 13th and Patrick Dussault 17th. Dussault started in the top 10 but was unfortunately involved in an incident and had to restart last.
Race 2 is scheduled tomorrow 9:35am.
