It’s IMSA race week at Road America
WILL WE SEE A REPEAT WINNER THIS WEEKEND AS IMSA ANNOUNCED BOP CHANGES
35 cars have confirmed their presence for the coming race with the Dpi Juncos team not present as they are currently rebuilding their car with a new tub following the massive crash at the end of the CTMP race.
Coming off a two race win(Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) Mazda Team Joest has been hit with a BoP adjustment for the Road America race. It will be interesting to see how this turns out as a 20kg increase in minimum weight has been added along with a reduction in turbo boost. To counter balance the decrease in performance, IMSA officials have also made adjustment to fuel capacity.
There will be no changes in the GTLM class as the cars are so close together in terms of performance. Porsche has been consistent so far this season but Ford GT got the better of them at Lime Rock with a pit strategy that made the difference at the end of the race. BMW has also shown great pace throughout.
GTD Lime Rock race winner Pfaff Motorsports will have regular driver Zach Robichon teaming up with Porsche driver Matt Campbell to try to make it two in a row for the Toronto based team.
GTD entry Starworks Motorsport’s No. 8 Audi R8 LMS GT3 with Parker Chase and Ryan Dalziel are back this weekend after missing CTMP and Lime Rock.
Both Acura NSX GT3 Evo have been showing its competitiveness in the last several events and IMSA has adjusted their BoP by adding 20kg to their minimum weight. Compass Racing McLaren 720S has been given a reduction in weight of 30kg and added 7hp to powertrain performance as they are getting grips with the tough competitiveness in the GTD class.
The action will start on Friday with 2 practice sessions. A third one to follow on Saturday morning followed by qualifying. The 2 hour forty minutes race is scheduled for a green flag at 1:35pm Sunday.
