FASTEST IN BOTH PRACTICE SESSIONS FRIDAY ONLY DENIED BY ACURA TEAM PENSKE IN THIRD PRACTICE THIS MORNING.
The Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented By Acura got underway Friday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with the first two practice sessions of the weekend.
Core Autosport lead the way in both of the sessions finishing ahead of Mazda Team Joest in the first session and Acura Team Penske in the second. In both sessions, Colin Braun was the quickest with almost identical times.
In the third practice session this morning, it was Helio Castroneves/Ricky Taylor of Acura Team Penske who went fastest but only by 0.152 second over the Nissan CORE Autosport of Colin Braun/Jonathan Bennett.
But qualifying was all about that Nissan CORE Autosport as they took pole with a time of 1:05.452 a mere 0.074 seconds ahead of #7 Acura Team Penske of Castroneves/Taylor. Third is #55 Mazda Team Joest of Bomarito/Thinknell 0.328 second behind.
GTLM Pole went to #24 BMW RLL of Krohn/Edwards with teammates of #25 BMW RLL Blomqvist/De Philippi 0.462 behind in second place. Third went to #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing of Briscoe/Westbrook.
The GTD class, with our three Canadian teams competing on home soil, also had a good fight for Pole. At the checkered flag, #96 BMW Turner Motorsport stole the Pole by 0.081 second over the #33 Mercedes AMG of Keeting/Bleekemolen with a time of 1:16.172. Third place went to #86 Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian Acura NSX of Farnbacher/Hindman 0.181 seconds behind the pole sitter.
#9 Pfaff Motorsports of Scott Hargrove/Zach Robichon have classified highest of our Canadians and are to start fifth for tomorrow’s race. Zach Robichon qualified the car 0.787 second from Pole. AIM Vasser Sullivan qualified their Lexus RC F in sixth and eight. Compass Racing, competing with the McLaren 720S GT3, qualified in 10th place for the 2h40 minutes race Sunday afternoon.
