Monaco F2: Latifi to start 8th following a penalty as De Vries takes pole
LATIFI HAF LED FREE PRACTICE SESSION AND HAD QUALIFIED FIFTH
DAMS and Williams F1 reserve driver Nicholas Latifi led the only free practice session for the Monaco F2 Championship with a time of 1:21.887 , less than two tenths ahead of Nick De Vries(ART Grand Prix) and four tenths over Luca Ghiotto(UNI-Virtuosi Racing).
The qualifying session was divided in two groups, the usual at Monaco, with group A including odd-numbered cars.
In group A, Callum Ilott came out fastest with a time of 1:21.887. Mick Schumacher followed in second and Latifi’s teammate Sérgio Sette Câmara third.
The top three from group 2 lapped quicker than Ilott with Nick De Vries’s time at 1:20.676, Luca Ghiotto(1:20.924) and Nicolas Latifi(1:21.130).
Before the official starting grid was revealed, Latifi had been handed a 3 place grid penalty for cutting the white line at pits exit with the red light illuminated.
With the combined results, De Vries will start on pole with Ilott second and Ghiotto third. The top ten will be completed by Schumacher and Sette Câmara, Sean Gelael, Anthoine Hubert, Latifi, Matsushita and Delétraz.
It will be interesting to see how the race unfolds for Latifi as we know Monaco is a very tight street circuit and passing very difficult.
