NASCAR Pinty’s: Dion-Viens places 12th

LOTS OF ON-TRACK ACTION FOR DION-VIENS WHO FOUGHT HARD IN NOT IDEAL CONDITIONS

This past weekend, Simon Dion-Viens competed on the high-speed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Ontario) track, first round of the 2019 season of the prestigious NASCAR Pinty’s series. Driving the no.37 Castrol Canada car, backed by Bestbuy Auto Parts, Rousseau Metal and Impact Ford, the Kamouraska driver had an action-packed race although admitting to being only partially satisfied with the final result.

“The team worked very hard throughout the weekend to prepare a competitive car even though we encountered small problems during practice. We made several adjustments to optimize the car’s handling before qualifying and, even as I was pleased with its behavior during the qualifying session, we realized the performance was not at its best especially at the end of the long straight here at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The car not reaching the same top speed as most competitors,” explains Dion-Viens.

After qualifying in 16th place for the race, Dion-Viens was still confident of having a good handling car in his hands as the team made further adjustments for the race.

“I had to fight very hard from the start of the race to get back to the leading pack. At the halfway point, after my pit stop, I was in the top 10 and the car was doing very well despite a lower top speed than the best competitors out there. I had to push hard and be very aggressive on restarts to stay in the thick of the fight. With few laps to go, still running in the top 10, a competitor ran in the back of my car which made me lose a couple of positions in the end”, explains Simon.

Simon crossed the finish line in 12th position out of the 23 cars that started the race.

“Although I’m not 100% happy with the final result, I want to thank my teammates for their great work this weekend. We have taken notes of things to improve and we will be back at the height of the fight for the next races,” concludes Simon.

The next race of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series will take place on Saturday, June 30th at Autodrome Chaudières in Vallée Jonction (Quebec).

Simon Dion-Viens would like to thank his main partners: Castrol Canada, BestBuy Auto Parts, Rousseau Metal, Impact Ford, The Trois-Rivières Grand Prix, Rémi Charest Enterprises, Construction Luc Moreau, OMP and Jerry Hall Design.
