Toyota wins the 1000 miles of Sebring
WHAT A WEEKEND AT SEBRING WITH THE WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP 1000 MILES OF SEBRING. WIN FOR ALONSO/NAKAJIMA/BUEMI
After setting the fastest lap ever at Sebring in Qualifying(1m40.124s), Fernando Alonso with teammates Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastian Buemi had a worry free race and took the win on a green checkered flag. With less than 30 minutes left on the clock, rain started falling hard on Sebring International Raceway. Enough for the team to switch to full wet. As the race was coming to a close a full course yellow as the TDS Racing No. 28 went straight off the track and deep into the tire wall. With not enough time before the checkered flag, the officials elected to end the race not long after.
In second place, even after having to deal with issues with the car, the No. 7 car of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López brought the sister car in second place, albeit 2 laps down. In third place, No. 11 SMP Racing 10 laps behind.
In the LMP2 class, the honours went to the No. 37 of Jackie Chan DC Racing took the flag with No. 36 Signatec Alpine Matmut in second. Third is No. 31 Dragon Speed.
In the LMGTE PRO and LMGTE AM there was a constant battle for a very good portion of the race with some very tight battles for positions.
The LMGTE PRO the No. 91 Porsche GT Team took the win over the No. 81 BMW Team Mtek and the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK
The LMGTE AM class the No. 77 Dempsey – Proton Racing Porsche was first to cross the finish line over the No. 54 Sprit of Race Ferrari and the No. 56 Team Project 1 Porsche in third place.
