Race is red flagged with less than two hours to go. Alonso leads
LENGTHY FULL COURSE YELLOW, INTENSIVE RAIN, RED FLAG DELAY AND SEVERAL SPINS. THE RACE IS FAR FROM OVER.
It has very difficult morning for the drivers of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as Mother Nature has yet to stop the rain.
After a long red flag to try to better the track conditions, the race resumed and before the end of the first lap an unfortunate incident ended Pfaff Motorsport hope to reach the checkered flag at Daytona.
The track conditions were still extremely wet and visibility very limited as the field headed onto the oval. In the mix was the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. Damages were important enough that they had to retire the car.
Our other Canadians are still going strong with the two AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3. They are currently running in third and sixth.
Daniel Morad in the no. 29 Audi R8 LMS GT3 is running strong in 2nd.
The WRT SpeedStar Audi Sport team and Roman DeAngelis have been consistent and are in the running for top honors. They are 4th at the moment.
Top 3 in Dpi are: no. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac with Alonso at the wheel; second is Felipe Nasr in the Whelen Engineering Cadillac and third is Alexander Rossi in the Acura Team Penske.
In the GTLM, it is BMW no. 25(Agusto Farfus), Ferrari no. 62 James Calado and Ford GT no. 67(Richard Westbrook).
